PROJECTED AIDS IN TEACHING


DEFINITION


Audio visual aids are anything by means of which learning process may be encouraged through or carried on through the sense of hearing or sense of sight

Audio visual aids assist a teacher in providing suitable learning experiences to the learners so as to help them acquire new information more effectively


CLASSIFICATION OF AV AIDS


A.V aids can be broadly classifies into two types based on their operation

- Projected aids

- Non projected aids


PROJECTED AIDS


Projected visual aids are pictures shown upon a screen by the use of a certain machine

Film projector on a wide screen using a film projector is typical example

 

- Slide projector

- Over Head Projector

- Film strips and film strip projector

- LCD Projector

 

OVER HEAD PROJECTOR

 

·         Important electronic teaching aid

·         Projects an image from a transparency

·         Projected image is behind and over the head of the speaker

·         Can be used with great advantage in a science class

·         Teacher can retain eye contact with the student


SLIDE PROJECTOR

 

·          Equipped with a powerful light source

·          Carrier for holding slides of suitable size

·          Usually a double slide carrier is filled into the projector

·          The projector can be operated and focused by remote control

·          Any picture or diagram which takes long time to be drawn on the black board can be developed as slides.


SLIDES


A slide is a still transparency of 70 mm, 35 mm or 6 mm size which is optically enlarged and projected on a screen as a real image


FILM STRIPS & FILM STRIPS PROJECTOR

 

·          Film strips are used

·          One strip may contain 10-15 picture frames

·          The pictures may be black or white

·          Film strips are projected by film projector

 

FILM STRIPS


The film strip is a series of sequenced slides on a piece of film covering a large portion of a lesson

20 to 25 slides or frames are on about half meters to one and half meters long film strip


LCD PROJECTOR

 

·          Liquid crystal display projector

·          Most  advanced and sophisticated projecting aid

·          Demonstrate real world situations in the classroom in a theatre like atmosphere

·          Replace all projected and non projected aid with only a single LCD projector and computer system

 

CONCLUSION


Audio Visual Aids are very useful for the teaching process.Audio visuals are great tools to catch the audience attention.It is important to use variety of teaching methods for students with varying preferences.
